Savita Anand writer and an activist have been associated with Ustad’s family for the last 18 years. She has penned a biography on Shehnai Maestro Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan, the manuscript of which is presently under review. She is on a mission to take Ustad’s legacy forward and to preserve his ancestral home in a museum.
She also had the privilege of being associated with Google to run a worldwide Doodle to commemorate Ustad, the viewership of which crossed 175 crore hits in the year 2018.
During the tough times of the pandemic in 2020, as a curator to preserve Ustad’s legacy, she was instrumental in conducting Ustad’s remembrance in Benaras to mark his 105th birth anniversary. That was the first time in 16 years (after Ustad’s death) that his family performed on stage to recreate the magic of Ustad’s Shehnai in the lanes of Benaras. She is a founder of Virasat-E-Bismillah and is committed to propagating Ustad Bismillah Khan’s values to the larger society beyond his immediate fans, family, and aficionados.
She is a mother, a daughter, and an animal rescuer who tries to contribute as much as she can for the betterment of society. She has formed a community page also to rescue and adopt abandoned and stray animals. During Delhi Riots, she came forward to adopt a girl child of 2 years who has lost her parents.
